Naruhiko Kawaguchi – fortepiano

Naruhiko Kawaguchi is geboren en getogen in Japan; heeft aan de Universiteit van Tokyo musicologie gestudeerd en zijn Masters behaald op het gebied van de vroege muziek. Hij bekwaamde zich in het bespelen van de fortepiano met Kikuko Ogura, Christine Schornsheim en Richard Egarr. In zijn vervolgopleiding specialiseerde hij zich verder in fortepiano en clavichord, respectievelijk onder Richard Egarr en Menno van Delft.

Naruhiko won verschillende internationale concoursen en kreeg prijzen en onderscheidingen overal ter wereld: bijvoorbeeld bij de 1st Rome Fortepiano International Competition (Premio Muzio Clementi ), het Geelvinck Fortepiano Concours 2015 (Amsterdam), en de 27e International Competition for Early Music in Yamanashi (Japan). Hij heeft recitals gegeven in Amsterdam, Rome, Florence, Palma, and Saluzzo en ook tijdens de prestigieuze Wunderkammer of Trieste (Italie) in 2013.

Naruhiko is niet alleen solist, speelt ook graag in ensembles met andere instrumentalisten. In 2015 speelde hij Piano Nonetto van C. Czerny met o.a. Saxton Rose (bas), and Sandro Caldini (Engelse hoorn).
Hij is te beluisteren op de CD “Ballad for the Earth” met het Harmonia Ensemble op Brain Music label, en zijn eerste solo opname met werk van J. L. Dussek is recentelijk uitgegeven door Brilliant Classics.

Naruhiko Kawaguchi was born in Morioka in 1989 and grew up in Yokohama, Japan. He has won awards at the International Competition Musica Antiqua Bruges (2016), Stanley Hoogland Square Piano Award (2016), the Geelvinck Fortepiano Concours (2015), International Early Music Competition Yamanashi(2014) and the 1st Rome Fortepiano International Competition(2013). He has performed recitals on period instruments in Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Monteverdi Festival, Wunderkammer Trieste and so on. In 2016, he premiered the unknown final edition of “Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano” by F. Poulenc with Saxton Rose and Nicholas Daniel in the U.S.A. His solo recordings include a CD of works by Dussek (Brilliant Classics) and Schubert (Fuga Libera). And he has recorded Bartok’s “Sonata for two pianos and percussion” with members of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, which will be released from MUSIS in 2018.

He obtained his Master’s degrees in Early Music with cum laude from the Tokyo University of the Arts (2015) and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (2017). He has studied fortepiano with Kikuko Ogura and Richard Egarr.
