Gabriele Toia

Pianist Gabriele Toia is van Italiaanse afkomst. Hij studeerde af aan het G. Verdi Conservatorium in Milaan. Hij studeerde verder onder begeleiding van Alessandro Solbiati en Emilia Fadini, en bekwaamde zich in het bespelen van de harp en fortepiano. Vervolgens ook nog het klavichord met Bernard Brauchli en met Christopher Hogwood en het klavecimbel met Davitt Moroney. Maar ook kreeg hij gaandeweg meer belangstelling voor de jazzmuziek. Hij gaf recitals op internationale muziekfestivals ; hij werkte samen met orkesten als Basel Simfonietta, het Ensemble van de Violas da Gamba, ‘Il Suonar parlante’, onder aanvoering van Vittorio Ghielmi, het orkest van Milaan: the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi , met dirigenten Michael Schønwandt, Giorgio Magnanensi, Monica Buckland Hofstetter and Fortunat Frölich, en met pianist Michael Tsalka, die inmiddels een voor Sypesteyn vertrouwde musicus genoemd kan worden.

Hij componeerde muziekstukken voor piano, koor en kamermuziek maar ook voor films, toneel of poezielezingen waarbij hij met dichters samenwerkt, met bijvoorbeeld de Italiaanse dichters Milo De Angelis, Vivian Lamarque and Franco Buffoni. Zijn muziek wordt ten gehore gebracht in Italie, Zwitserland, Griekenland, Nederland,U.S.A., Nieuw Zeeland, Australie, Hong Kong and China. Recent heeft hij prijzen gewonnen in internationale composities zoals de “Città di Albenga” in Italie ’ The Vox Novus’ in New York. Zijn composities worden gepubliceerd door Simon Verlag te Berlijn. In de wereld van het theater werkte hij samen met het Piccolo Teatro di Milano (Giorgio Strehlerand Oriella Dorella) and met acteur Franco Branciaroli. Eigentijdse en oude muziek van hem is opgenomen voor Ducale, MDS Records Zurich en in radio en tv opnames In Italie en Zwitserland te beluisteren.

Gabriele Toia – Biography

He graduated in piano from the ‘G. Verdi Conservatory’ of Milan. He studied composition with Alessandro Solbiati and historical keybords under the guidance of Emilia Fadini, Bernard Brauchli, Christopher Hogwood and Davitt Moroney. Over time he has also dedicated himself to jazz music and improvisation.

He played at numerous international music festivals and collaborated with the “basel sinfonietta”, “Il suonar parlante” and the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi in Milan.

He worked with important italian poets Milo De Angelis, Vivian Lamarque and Franco Buffoni and collaborated with the Piccolo Teatro di Milano (Giorgio Strehler and Oriella Dorella) and with actor Franco Branciaroli.

His music has been performed in Italy, Switzerland, Greece, The Netherlands, Finland, U.S.A., Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

He has won several prizes in international composition competitions such as the “Città di Albenga” in Italy and The Vox Novus in New York. He recently won the first price (both jury and audience vote) at the International Clavichord Composition Competition (Finland). Some of his compositions are published by Simon Verlag, Berlin.

He has recorded contemporary and ancient music for Ducale, La Bottega Discantica and MDS Records Zurich. Some of his compositions and performances have been broadcast by Rai Radio 3 e FD5, Radio Rumantsch, Schweizer Radio DRS 2 e WFMT Chicago and recorded on CD by Wirripang (Australia).
